Dry Needling is relatively new around Fort Worth, but it's "ancient" to us!
Hi, I'm Rebecca Martin, PA-C, MPAS and I've been providing pain management around Dallas/Fort Worth for 9 years!
The first question I always get-- what is dry needling!? To best explain, it's similar to acupuncture wherein super thin, tiny sterile needles are targeted at myofascial trigger points in the body causing localized or widespread discomfort. This approach to pain includes more Western medical principles and practices compared to the Eastern traditional principles. This treatment is most commonly used for sciatica, migraines, fibromyalgia, tendonitis and other knotted areas of uncontrolled pain. We offer this in addition to our pain patients to reduce tension, promote nerve healing while increasing the range of motion for join impairments.
Am I a candidate for Dry Needling in Fort Worth?
During the first consultation, we discuss the patient's medical history and existing pain management plan. Dry needling has been a revolutionary practice for our pain patients in accordance with other treatments to relieve musculoskeletal problems. We determine what trigger points or spams the patient has been experiencing as well as the underlying cause of discomfort. With a simple evaluation of the muscle, skin and twitch response, we can map out a plan to aid with a biochemical response to relieve pain and tension.
Is Dry Needling Painful?
We have patients who are incredibly fearful of needles that leave a session saying they didn't feel a thing! You might feel a little pressure while a needle is being inserted but an overwhelming percentage of our clients feel almost nothing at all! You may feel a little soreness the next day, but the procedure is quick and ultimately pain-free.
How Frequent Is Dry Needling Done To See Any Benefits?
It varies per patient. Typically, you can feel a relief over the next day or two after a session. Some patients schedule a few sessions until they see improvements or relief in specific areas. Several patients will work on one problematic area for a few sessions and then move to other similar regions that are also causing discomfort. We discuss your goals each session and book as needed!
What Problem Areas Can Dry Needling Treat?
There are so many benefits to dry needing! We have patients that come in with chronic back and neck pain that haven't been able to get relief from physical therapy or medication. We have migraine sufferers at their wits end that will try anything to make the pain subside. We also see patients for fibromyalgia, jaw, sciatica, calf tightness and all types of muscle spams in our offices. Ideally, any musculoskeletal issues can be addresses with dry needling here in our Fort Worth and Weatherford Offices.
